Things to Do Around Lagos

Come early or stay late — the Algarve is worth it. Here are a few things we love, with links to book direct. In May things are quieter, but it's still worth reserving surf lessons, tastings, and boat trips a few days ahead.

Surf & Beaches

Get in the water

The west coast around Lagos and Sagres has some of Europe's best surf and dramatic cliff beaches. Lessons include board and wetsuit, and most schools run transport to whichever beach is working that day.

Vineyards & Wine

A slower afternoon

The Algarve's wine scene is quietly excellent. Most estates are small and family-run, so book your tour and tasting ahead — turning up unannounced usually won't work.

Monte da Casteleja

A small organic estate right in Lagos — the closest vineyard to the wedding. Honest, characterful wines and a relaxed tasting.

On the Water

Out on the Atlantic

Ponta da Piedade — the orange cliffs, sea caves, and grottoes just south of Lagos — is the can't-miss. Go by kayak to get into the caves, or by small boat for an easy trip. Most depart from Lagos Marina.

Kayak the grottoes

Paddle into the sea caves and arches of Ponta da Piedade on a guided kayak tour from Lagos Marina — the best way to get up close.
